Free Keyword Density Checker

Paste your draft. See how often each word and phrase appears — and whether your target keyword is missing, natural, or overused. Free, no signup, nothing sent anywhere. Everything runs in your browser.

Important, authentic fact: Google publishes no ideal keyword density and does not rank pages by a density percentage. What Google does publish is a spam rule against keyword stuffing: filling a page with keywords in an attempt to manipulate rankings, often in a list, unnaturally, or out of context. Sites that violate its spam policies may rank lower or not appear at all. Use this tool as a readability check, not a target to hit.

How counting works here: Words are text split on whitespace, lowercased, with punctuation stripped. Density = phrase count divided by total words, times 100. One-word results remove common stopwords (the, and, to, of, a, in, etc.). Two-word and three-word phrases skip phrases that start or end with a stopword, so the tables show real phrases, not fragments.

How to use it

1. Paste your draft.
2. Type your target keyword or phrase if you have one, and read its count and density.
3. Read the top phrase tables. If one phrase dominates, your draft may read repetitively — vary it with synonyms and related terms.
4. Judge by reading, not by percentage. Short texts exaggerate density: 5 mentions in 150 words is 3.3 percent, the same 5 in 800 words is 0.6 percent.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an ideal keyword density?
No. Google has never published one. Aim for natural language that fully answers the reader, and let the percentage be whatever that produces.

What counts as keyword stuffing?
Google defines it as filling a page with keywords or numbers to manipulate rankings, often unnaturally or out of context — for example, repeating the same words so often that it sounds unnatural, or listing cities and regions a page is trying to rank for.

What should I do if my density is high?
Read the passage aloud. If it sounds forced, remove or replace repetitions with synonyms. Do not add repetitions to reach a percentage.

Is my text saved?
No. This tool runs only in your browser.
